Vibration Slag Detection
Our Vibration Slag Detector (VSD) is built around a real-time detection engine that fuses vibration sensors, visual monitoring, and live process data from the plant's control system into a single, unified view. By analyzing vibration signatures in the frequency domain, the software identifies the earliest physical signs of vortex formation - long before slag carryover would otherwise be detected - giving operators an early, reliable warning the moment conditions begin to develop, so they can act before slag ever reaches the mold. This multi-sensor fusion approach gives a more accurate and reliable picture than any single sensor could provide on its own, and the system requires no ladle modification and no down-time for installation or maintenance, making it a straightforward addition to existing caster operations.
The software is also what makes the VSD a true plant-wide system rather than a standalone sensor: it's built to work directly with existing Level 1 PLC and OPC infrastructure, so it integrates into the current control environment without disrupting operations, while a clear, operator-focused interface puts the information crews need front and center for fast, confident decisions during casting. Every heat is logged and archived, giving quality teams the historical analysis and reporting tools to review past casts, refine detection thresholds, and continuously improve casting performance over time.

Optical Slag Detection
The Slagman Optical Slag Detection (OSD) system uses near-infrared detection to precisely identify the steel-slag transition during tapping or teeming, giving operators a reliable, real-time signal at the exact moment slag begins to appear in the stream. Working alongside the EV-Cam system, the OSD continuously monitors tap stream location, ensuring detection stays accurate even as the stream position shifts throughout the process. This combination of near-infrared sensing and continuous visual tracking allows the system to catch the steel-slag transition with precision, without requiring operators to rely on visual judgment alone.
When slag is detected above a user-specified threshold, the system automatically triggers and records an operator alarm, giving crews the immediate notice they need to close the tap or adjust the process before slag carryover affects downstream quality. By catching the transition early and consistently, the Slagman OSD helps plants maximize yield during the steelmaking process, reducing the losses and rework that come from delayed or missed slag detection.
